2011 NRHA Open Futurity


At the 2011 NRHA Futurity in Oklahoma City, Tom McCutcheon rode Whizzen Shine (pictured left) to the Open Futurity finals.

Tom also made the NRHA Open Finals on A Shining Sidekick, owned by Turnabout Farm, Inc.

2011 NRHA Non Pro Futurity


In the Non Pro Futurity, Mandy McCutcheon marked a 220 on Justa Smart Star, pictured left and owned by Tom & Mandy, to win the Reserve Championship!

Mandy also tied for 3rd with a 219 on Starbucks Deja Vu, also owned by Tom & Mandy, and 5th on Dun Git A Nicadual, owned by McQuay Stables.

2011 AQHA World Championship Show


At the 2011 AQHA World show, Tom McCutcheon rode SL Lena Chick, winners of the AQHA Reserve World Championship in Junior Reining!

SL Lena Chick is owned by Roxanne Koepsell.

2011 SWRHA Open Futurity


At the 2011 South West Reining Horse Association Futurity, Tom McCutcheon rode Whizzen Shine to a 225 to finish 3rd in the Open and earn $8,750 for owner Jimmy Pierce. Tom and Whizzen Shine are pictured left.

Congratulations also to assistant trainer Barbara Williams on riding Bella Gunnabe Gifted to a Top 10 finish in the Limited Open Futurity. This nice mare is owned by Roxanne Koepsell.

2011 SWRHA Non Pro Futurity & Ancillary


Mandy McCutcheon rode Dun Git A Nicadual, owned by McQuay Stables, to score of 223 to win the Non Pro Futurity Reserve Championship and earn $3,336. Mandy also rode Justa Smart Star to a 221 for 3rd place in the Non pro Futurity, pictured left. Also riding Starbucks Deja Vu, Mandy scored a 218 for 9th place.

Congrats to Cade McCutcheon on placing 3rd in the Youth 13 & Under class riding Dun It Got Lucky, and congrats to Barb Wibbels on placing 2nd in the Nov Horse NP 2 class on Hez A Ruf Hombre with a score of 73.

Thanks to all of the 2011 Legacy Sale buyers & consigners!


The 2011 Legacy Reining Breeders Sale was once again a great success, with record highs and an overall increase in average sale prices. The high seller was Great Big Guns, consigned by McQuay Stables and purchsed by Mario Madrigal for $70,000.

A special thanks to all of the consigners and buyers that have faith in the sale, as well as the support team that makes it such a success each year!

Mandy McCutcheon inducted into the NRHA Hall of Fame!


Congratulations to Mandy McCutcheon on her induction into the NRHA Hall of Fame! She was presented with this prestigious honor at the NRHA Banquet held during 2011 NRHA Derby week. Fellow Hall of Fame inductees included Shawn Flarida, Ronnie Sharpe and Bob Kiser.

As the only woman, and non pro, to have earned over $1 Million, the honor was another milestone in her career.

Tom McCutcheon rides Darlins Not Painted to win the 2011 FEI World Reining Finals!


At the 2011 FEI World Reining Finals in Bökebergs Gård, Sweden, just outside of Malmö, Tom McCutcheon rode Darlins Not Painted to an big score of 229.5 to win the prestigious event. This phenomenal mare is owned by Turnabout Farms.

2011 Ariat Kentucky Reining Cup

Team Smart Pak was third at the 2011 Ariat Kentucky Reining Cup with team members Tom, Mandy, and Pete Kyle.  Individually, Tom was 5th with Chic Olena Starbuck owned by Turnabout Farm Inc., Mandy was 4th aboard Don Julio Whiz, formerly owned by Rosanne Sternberg, and Pete 15th riding Whizs Bronze Star owned by Kaitlin Townsend.

A big congratulations to Shawn Stratman on the purchase of Don Julio Whiz.  Don Julio Whiz was 4th at the Ariat Kentucky Reining Cup with Mandy McCutcheon. Congratulations also to Rebecca Cates on her purchase of Oaks Steady Star.   Shawn and Rebecca will be showing in the Non Pro/Rookie division this year.

Tom McCutcheon has been named the 2010 USEF Equestrian of the Year!

After a stellar show season, Tom McCutcheon has been named the 2010 USEF Equestrian of the Year! McCutcheon is the first reiner to be crowned USEF Equestrian of the Year.

At the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, McCutcheon and Gunners Special Nite won the individual gold in reining, and the two were members of the gold-medal winning Team USA.

Gunners Special Nite has been named the 2010 USEF Horse of the Year!

Gunners Special Nite again made history when he was named the 2010 USEF Horse of the Year, becoming the first western discipline horse to do so. Owner Sarah Willeman accepted the award for Gunners Special Nite at the awards banquet.

“This is definitely the high point of my life as a horse owner,” Willeman said in her acceptance speech. “It's a great feeling to have the support of the equestrian community, and I'm happy as well for the recognition this brings to reining.” Photo courtesy of the Paint Horse Journal. 2010 NRHA Futurity Successes!

At the 2010 NRHA Futurity, Tom McCutcheon rode 2 horses to finalists slots in the Open Futurity: Dun Whiz It, owned by Oldenburg Farm, and That Guysa Star, sired by Smart Starbuck and owned by Butch Redish. In the $100,000 Shootout, Tom rode Chic Olena Starbuck, sired by Smart Starbuck and owned by Turnabout Farms, to 11th place.

In the Non Pro Futurity, Mandy McCutcheon made the finals on 3, finishing 7th on Lil Mistress, owned by Tom and Mandy. She was 8th on My Gunner Enterprise, and 12th Hidin Gunner, both owned by McQuay Stables, Inc.

In his first time to show in the NRHA Futurity, Tom & Mandy's son Cade finished 8th in the Youth Non Pro Futurity on Sug And Twist (pictured left, photo by Paul Harding).

Congratulations to Bonnie Hippensteel & Hes Justa Benz on winning the 2010 NRHA Non Pro World Championship

Bonnie Hippensteel and Hes Justa Benz, sired by Smart Starbuck, earned $37,645 in 2010 on their way to winning the NRHA Non Pro World Championship! Their many 2010 wins included 2 Non Pro class championships at the NRBC, pictured left.

Tom McCutcheon bred, raised and trained Hes Justa Benz, and we are thrilled with his success! Prior to selling Hes Justa Benz to Bonnie, Tom rode this talented gelding to finalist slots at the NRHA Open Futurity, Congress Futurity and NRBC Open Derby.

Tom McCutcheon & Gunners Special Nite Win 2 Gold Medals at the 2010 World Equestrian Games!

At the prestigious 2010 World Equestrian Games in Lexington, KY, Tom McCutcheon rode Gunners Special Nite, owned by Turnabout Farm, to the Individual Gold Medal! The duo was also part of Team USA, which won the Team Gold Medal as well. We are very excited to be standing this one of a kind stallion at Tom McCutcheon Reining Horses, Inc in 2011.

Tom McCutcheon & Gunners Special Nite make 2010 Team USA

At the selection trials for the 2010 USA Reining Team for the World Equestrian Games, Tom McCutcheon rode Gunners Special Nite, owned by Turnabout Farm, to the second highest composite to earn the silver medal and a chance to compete at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Lexington, KY.

2010 Cowboy Capital Classic Derby

Mandy McCutcheon rode Starstruck Girl (Smart Starbuck x Good Time Showgirl) to a 219 to win the Cowboy Capital Classic Non Pro Derby in Stephenville, Texas.

2010 Florida Classic

Congratulations to Bonnie Hippensteel and Hes Justa Benz, winners of the Florida Classic Non Pro Derby, marking a 147.5! Bonnie purchased this home grown champion in 2009 from Tom & Mandy McCutcheon, who bred and raised him. He is by Smart Starbuck and out of their stellar producing mare, Justa Spring Freckle.

2009 NRHA Futurity

At the 2009 NRHA Futurity in Oklahoma City, Mandy McCutcheon rode West Coast Mizzen (West Coat Whiz x Mizzen Shine) to win the Non Pro Futurity Championship out of 152 entries! Owned by Tom & Mandy, this special mare now has over $47,000 in earnings after 1 year in the show pen. This duo also won the 2009 SWRHA Non Pro Futurity in Ardmore, OK, with a score of 224.5, earning $5,250.

Smart Starbuck is NRHA's Newest $1 Million Sire!

NRHA announced on September 30, 2009 that Smart Starbuck, owned by Tom & Mandy McCutcheon, had become the reining industry's newest $1 Million sire!

Mandy McCutcheon & West Coast Mizzen win NCRHA Non Pro Futurity

At the 2009 NCRHA Futurity in St. Paul, MN, Mandy McCutcheon won the Non Pro Futurity Co-Championship on West Coast Mizzen, owned by Tom & Mandy. In the Open Futurity, Tom McCutcheon guided two horses to the Open finals, Serendipity Starbuck, owned by Arcese Quarter Horses; and Paps Starbuck, owned by Robert Stinner.

Tom McCutcheon & Darlins Not Painted win FEI Kentucky Test Event

Team USA rider Tom McCutcheon of Aubrey, TX, won the individual final in Kentucky Cup Reining, the first test event for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. For the win, he teamed up with Darlins Not Painted, owned by Randy and Andi Paul of Arizona. Team USA also won the team competition. Team USA members also included: Dell Hendricks & Starbucks Sidekick (sired by Smart Starbuck), Shawn Flarida & Smart Spook, and Aaron Ralston & Double My Whiskey. Click Here for a video!

2009 NRHA Derby

At the 2009 Derby, congratulations go to assistant trainer Joe Schmidt, who made the Open and Intermediate Open Finals on Dun It Got Lucky, owned by Roxanne Koepsell. Joe and this nice buckskin mare are pictured to the left.

Shown by Tom McCutcheon, this powerful show horse has earnings of over $21,000 on his way to winning the 2008 SWRHA Open Futurity Reserve Championship and making the finals at the 2008 Tulsa Classic Open Futurity and 2008 NRHA Open Futurity. Gimme Major Bucks Wins Big at 2009 NRBC!

Congratulations to Christy McElreath on winning the Limited Non Pro and Non Pro 1 Championships at the NRBC while riding her new horse, Gimme Major Bucks (Smart Starbuck x Majors Serendipity). This duo also won the Int Non Pro Reserve Championship and made the Non Pro Finals. And they posted a 222.5 in the preliminaries to win the first go in all divisions! For their wins they earned over $36,000! Gimme Major Bucks was raised at Tom McCutcheon Reining Horses, and shown by Tom and previous owner Sarah Willeman. Many congrats to Christy and her trainer Pete Kyle on purchasing this nice horse!
